More Inspired Organics Nut Butters Recalled for Possible Listeria

More Inspired Organics Nut & Seed Butters are being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The company recalled Sunflower Butter on December 11, 2018, and expanded the recall to include Almond Butter on December 17, 2018. Now, Almond, Peanut, and Tahini Butters are being recalled.

Inspired Organics Peanut Butter Recall

The products were distributed by Lipari Foods in food service and retail stores in Florida, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wisconsin, and Ontario, Canada. The company started shipping these products on April 12, 2018. No illnesses have been reported to date.

All lots and all best by dates of the following products are included in the recall. The recalled products include Inspired Organics Organic Almond Butter in 16 ounce containers. The Lipari Item Number is 967067, and the UPC number is 863669742540. Also recalled is Inspired Organics Organic Peanut Butter, also in 16 ounce containers. The Lipari Item Number is 967073, and the UPC number on that product is 863669742588. Finally, Inspired Organics Organic Tahini Butter in 16 ounce packages is recalled. The Lipari Item Number is 967070, and the UPC number is 863669742564.

The problem is that more product testing returned presumptive positive test results for potential contamination with Listeria monocytogenes. There is zero tolerance for this bacteria in ready-to-eat foods. Oskri Corporation of Lake Mills, Wisconsin is the manufacture of the company’s nut and seed butters. The FDA and the Michigan Department of Agriculture and Rural Development is working with both companies to address this issue.

If you bought any of these items, don’t eat them. Return them to the store where you bought them for a refund, or throw them away in a secure garbage can.
