MDA Issues Consumer Advisory About Autumnwood Farm Ice Cream

The Minnesota Department of Agriculture is issuing a consumer advisory for ice cream mix distributed by Autumnwood Farm of Forest Lake, Minnesota because the product was inadequately pasteurized. The product has been inadequately pasteurized since May 16, 2018.

The ice cream mix was sold to three retail ice cream locations in Minnesota: LouLou Sweet & Savory Ice Cream and Coffee Shop in Minneapolis, Love Creamery  in Duluth, and Pumphouse Creamery in Minneapolis. No reports of illness or any adverse reactions have been received to date in connection with this issue.

These are the products affected by this advisory: All ice cream sampled or sold at LouLou Sweet & Savory Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, located at 2839 Emerson Ave. S., Minneapolis, between 5/24/18 through 7/12/18. All products served or sold starting 7/13/18 are not affected. Also affected is all ice cream sampled or sold at Love Creamery, located at 1908 W. Superior St., Duluth, between 6/11/18 and 7/12/18. Finally, all ice cream sampled or sold at Pumphouse Creamery, located at 4754 Chicago Ave., Minneapolis, between 5/24/18 and 7/12/18 is affected. This includes hand-dipped ice cream, pints, quarts, and ice cream cookie sandwiches. Pumphouse Creamery was closed on 7/13/18. All products served or sold starting 7/14/18 are not affected.

Improper pasteurization of dairy products can result in contamination with bacteria such as Staphylococcus aureus, Listeria monocytogenes, and E. coli. These organisms are only killed when the foods they contaminate are heated.

If you have any Autumnwood Farm ice cream in your home from one of the stores listed above, which was purchased during the stated times, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed or double wrapped package, or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund. If you ate ice cream from one of those locations on those dates and have been ill, see your doctor.
