More Raw Dog Food Recalled for Possible Salmonella Contamination

More raw dog food has been recalled for possible Salmonella contamination. The products were produced by Carnivore Meat Company and TruPet LLC. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with either recall.

The first recall is for products made by TruPet LLC of Milford, Ohio. It is for 400 cases of “Boost Me” Mighty Meaty Beef Topper Meal Enhancer. These products were distributed via the online retailers Chewy.com and TruDog.com.

The TruDog Boost Me Mighty Meaty Beef Topper Meal Enhancer has the lot number 20190531 13815. The recall was issued after the FDA’s collection of a retail sample from a single batch tested positive for Salmonella bacteria.

The second recall is for Vital Essentials Freeze Dried Beef Toppers, and Vital Essentials Frozen Beef Chub Entree for Dogs. These products were also distributed through Chewys.com, also through Amazon.com and through independent retailers around the country.

The recalled products are Vital Essentials Freeze-Dried Beef Toppers, in a 6 ounce poly bag with Lot #13815 and Best By dates 06/01/2019, 06/04/19, and 06/20/19. The UPC number on the product is 033211006059. Also recalled is Vital Essentials Frozen Beef Chub Entrée for Dogs in 5 pound containers, with Lot #13816, Best By date 12/27/18, and UPC number 033211008817.

If you purchased any of these products, do not give them to your dog. Wrap them well so the container is sealed and discard in a closed garbage can, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

Dogs sickened with a Salmonella infection can be lethargic and may have bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets can carry this bacteria and pass it on to humans even though they do not appear sick. People can also contract a Salmonella infection from handling the contaminated products.

Human symptoms of a Salmonella infection include nausea, vomiting, abdominal cramps, fever, and bloody diarrhea. If your pet is ill, take her to the vet. If you have been ill, see your doctor.
