Performance Dog Raw Pet Food Recalled For Possible Salmonella

Bravo Packing of Carneys Point, New Jersey, is recalling all Performance Dog food products for possible Salmonella contamination. This pathogen clang cause illness in animals who are fed the products and people who touch pets carrying the bacteria or who handle the product. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

A sample of the dog food tested positive for Salmonella bacteria by FDA officials who collected it during an inspection. Performance Dog works with the distributor Tefco, in Brooklyn, New York, that fills orders either direct to consumer or through retail purchases.

Performance Dog raw frozen pet food comes in 2 pound and 5 pound plastic sleeves. The recalled food has the manufacture date code 071418. These codes are printed on the boxes that hold the plastic sleeves, but not on each plastic sleeve itself. If the cardboard box has been thrown away, there are no unique identification numbers on the plastic sleeves. If you  bought this product since July 14, 2018, the FDA recommends that you throw it away.

If you have any of these products in your home, do not feed them to your pet. Discard them by wrapping them with foil or putting them in another container, then into a secure garbage can. You can also take the product back to the place of purchase for a refund. Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product.

Pets with Salmonella infections could be lethargic and suffer from bloody diarrhea, fever, and vomiting. Some pets will only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Some pets can carry the bacteria and show no symptoms at all. If your pet has been sick, see your vet.

The symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning in people are fever, abdominal and stomach cramps and pain, vomiting, nausea, and diarrhea that may be bloody. People usually start getting sick 12 to 72 hours after contracting the infection.
