Redbarn Pet Products is expanding their voluntary recall of dog chew products for possible Salmonella contamination that was issued on February 9, 2018. Now, all lots of product that were made with raw material from a single supplier are recalled.

The recall is for products that were distributed from March 2017 to February 2018. The raw material was used to produce Redbarn, Chewy Louis, Dentley’s, and Good Lovin’ brand products. The recalled products have best by dates ending in BC. Twenty-four SKUs are affected by this recall.

You can se the long list of recalled products, along with the item number and UPC number, at the FDA web site. The products are all Redbarn brand Bully Sticks and Steer Sticks; Chewy Louie Bully Stick; Good Lovin’ Bully Stick; and Dentley’s Bully Stick. Check the best by code to see if you have purchased any of these products. All of the recalled products have the letters “BC” at the end of the best by date.

Pets can get sick from chewing on these products, and people who handle the products can also get sick, especially if they don’t wash their hands after touching them or their pets. No illnesses or any other complaints of human or pet illness have been reported to date.

Pets affected by Salmonella infections can experience diarrhea that may be bloody, nausea, fever, abdominal cramps, and vomiting. Some animals can show no symptoms or may just have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Pets that show no symptoms can be carriers and can infect people and other animals. If your pet is showing these symptoms, see your veterinarian.

If you bought any of these recalled products, do not give them to your pet. Throw them away in a double bagged sealed container, or take them back to the store where you bought them for a refund. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling these products.
