Compliments Sweet Kale Blend Recalled For Possible Listeria

Sobeys Inc. is recalling Compliments Sweet Kale Blend from the marketplace in Canada for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This product was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, New Brunswick, Newfoundland and Labrador, Nova Scotia, Ontario, Prince Edward Island, and Saskatchewan at the retail level. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recalled product.

The recall was triggered by Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) test results. A food safety investigation is being conducted, which may lead to a recall of other products. If more products are recalled, the CFIA will announce these recalls through updated warnings.

The recalled product is Compliments Sweet Kale Blend, sold in 255 gram packages. The UPC number on the product is 0 68820 13305 6, and the best before dates are 19 OC 28, 19 OC 31, 19 NO 01, 19 NO 02, and 19 NO 03.

If you purchased this product with that UPC number and any of those best before dates, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container in a secure garbage can with a tight fitting lid, or take it back to the place of purchase for a refund.

You should then clean your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures. Use a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after handling this product.

Symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by this pathogen, include high fever, muscle aches, headache, neck stiffness, and nausea. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness that seems like the flu, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
