Gia Russa Bread Crumbs Recalled For Undeclared Nuts

Icco Cheese Company is recalling Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs and Gia Russa Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs because they may contain undeclared walnuts and pecans, which are tree nuts. Tree nuts are one of the eight major food allergens. Anyone who is allergic to those ingredients and eats these products could have a serious reaction.

This recall was triggered by a consumer complaint. There has been one reported allergic reaction to date in connection with this recall.

The recalled products are Gia Russa Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs and Gia Russa Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs “best by” dates of 08/21/2019, 09/21/2019, 10/04/2019, 11/09/2019, 11/12/2019, 12/05/2019. The date code is on the bottom of the can. The UPC numbers for the Unseasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs is 0-26825-01853-2 and for the Italian Seasoned Whole Grain Bread Crumbs the UPC number is 0-26825-01854-9. They were sold nationwide through retail stores.

If you purchased this product and are allergic to walnuts and/or pecans, do not eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

Early symptoms of allergic reactions can include tingling of the lips, tongue, and mouth;  watery, itchy eyes; and nasal congestion. Severe symptoms of an allergic reaction include hives, nausea or vomiting, difficulty breathing, and stomach pain.
