UNIUM Canned Meat and Poultry Products Recalled For No Inspection

Global Zakii Enterprises of Houston, Texas is recalling about 100 pounds of imported UNIUM canned meat and poultry products that were not presented for import re-inspection. In addition, these products were imported from Jordan, a country that is not eligible to export foods to the United States. No illnesses or injuries or other adverse reactions have been reported to the company or the government to date in connection with this issue.

The problem was discovered after a consumer complaint, and subsequent investigation by the USDA. These items were shipped to retail locations in Texas. They were imported on or about September 20, 2019. They include:

  • 800-gm cans containing “UNIUM Chicken Luncheon”.
  • 800-gm cans containing “UNIUM Luncheon Meat”.
  • 500-gm cans containing “UNIUM Luncheon Meat”.
  • 200-gm cans containing “UNIUM Chicken Luncheon”.
  • 200-gm cans containing “UNIUM Luncheon Meat”.
  • 340-gm cans containing “BISHAWY Extra CORNED BEEF”.
  • 7-oz cans containing “TRADE MARK SHARAWI Extra CORNED BEEF PRODUCT OF BRAZIL”.

FSIS is concerned that some of these products may be in consumer’s pantries. Check your stored food carefully to see if you have any of these recalled products. If you do, throw them away or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund. You can see pictures of the recalled products at the USDA web site.

FSIS is conducting retail effectiveness checks to ensure that the company is recalling these products and telling its customers to return these canned meat and poultry products. In addition, if it becomes available, the retail distribution list where these foods may have been sold will be posted on the USDA web site.
