Prince Breads Recalled For Undeclared Sesame or Milk

Prince Breads in five varieties are being recalled because they may contain sesame or milk, two of the nine major food allergens, that are not declared on the product label as required. Anyone who is allergic to those ingredients, are well as anyone who is lactose intolerant, could have a serious reaction if they eat these products. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to the company to date in connection with the consumption of these products. The recalling firm is Prince Bakery of the Bronx, New York.

Prince Breads Recalled For Undeclared Sesame or Milk

These breads were sold in bodegas and small retail markets around the Bronx and Westchester in New York State. The breads have a shelf life of three to five days, but they may be frozen. You can see more pictures of the recalled products at the FDA web site.

The recalled products include 8 ounce Prince Pan de Manjeca Spanish Style
Bread, in a paper package colored blue, yellow, and green; 12 ounce Prince Sesame Italian Bread Large, in a paper package colored green and yellow (same packaging as Sesame French Bread Large); and 12 ounce Sesame French Bread Large, packaged in green and yellow colored packaging, same as Sesame Italian Bread Large.

Also recalled is 8 ounce Prince Sesame Italian Bread, packaged in red and yellow colored paper packaging, and Prince Sesame Long French Bread, packaged in red and yellow colored packaging.

The recall was triggered when the FDA found during a routine inspection that the Spanish Style bread, which contains whey milk in the ingredients, did not include milk in the “contains” statement. And Italian Bread and Large Italian & French Bread did not include the allergen sesame in the ingredients or the “contains” statement.

If you purchased these breads and cannot consume milk or sesame, do not eat them. You can throw them away in a secure trash can, or you can take them back to the store where you bought them for a full refund.
