Everything alfalfa sprouts and Caldo alfalfa sprouts are being recalled for E. coli and Salmonella contamination. There is a multistate Salmonella Agona and E. coli O26:H11, E. coli O103:H25, E. coli O168:H8 outbreak linked to these sprouts that has sickened at least 55 people in 15 states. The recalling firm is Everything Sprouts of Minneapolis, Minnesota.
The patient case count by state is: Florida (2), Iowa (1), Indiana (1), Kansas (1), Michigan (1), Minnesota (21), North Carolina (2), North Dakota (2), New Hampshire (1), New York (2), Pennsylvania (1), South Carolina (1), South Dakota (1), Washington (1), and Wisconsin (17). Illness onset dates range from May 31, 2026 to August 8, 2026. Four people have been hospitalized.
The sprouts were sold by Everything Sprouts from May 27, 2026 to August 21, 2026 to wholesale distributors and to grocery stores in Minnesota and Wisconsin. The grocery stores were not named in the notice.
The recalled products are Everything alfalfa sprouts and Caldo alfalfa sprouts that are packaged in individual 5 ounce plastic containers. The UPC numbers stamped on the label are 860014523113, 860014523120, and 850079470149.
The sprouts were packaged in 6 five ounce containers and 12/6//5 ounce packages with these lot numbers: 222, 223, 225, 226, and 230. The sprouts were also used in Everything Sprouts Crunchy Protein Sprout Mix sold in 5 ounce cups. The lot numbers for that product are 222, 223, 226, and 230. And they were used to make Zesty Garlic Mix cups with lot numbers 222, 223, 225, 226, and 230. You can see more pictures of product labels art the FDA web site.
If you bought these sprouts or the mixes, do not eat them, even if you plan to cook with them because of the possibility of cross-contamination. You can throw the sprouts away in a secure garbage can after first double bagging them so others can’t see them, or you can take them back to the store where you purchased them for a full refund.
If you ate these sprouts or fed them to anyone in your family, monitor your and their health for the symptoms of Salmonella food poisoning, E. coli food poisoning, or hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), which is a type of kidney failure, for the next week to 10 days. If anyone in your family gets sick, see your doctor.
