Alert for Listeria in Cheese

The Massachusetts Department of Public Health (DPH) has issued an alert to consumers to avoid some cheese and milk products that may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. Cheese sold by Cedar Market in Norwood, Massachusetts, and Bahnan’s in Worcester, Massachusetts, are part of the alert. You can see photos of all the cheese labels at the FDA site.

Product details:

  • All products have the brand name “Fromagerie Marie Kade”
  • Establishment number 1874
  • Akawi cheese, with “best before” date of March 8, 2012
  • Baladi cheese, with “best before” date of February 8, 2012
  • Halloom, with “best before” date of May 1, 2012
  • Moujadale, with “best before” date of May 4, 2012
  • Shinglish cheese, with “best before” date of November 7, 2012
  • Tresse cheese, with “best before” date of November 10, 2012
  • Vachekaval cheese, with “best before” date of March 10, 2012

No illnesses have been reported in Massachusetts, but Tresse and Shinglish cheeses from Kradjian Imp. Company, and other Fromagerie Marie Kade cheese have been recalled in the last few weeks.
