Fiorucci Foods Recalls Mortadella for Misbranding and Undeclared Nuts

Fiorucci Foods of Virginia is recalling about 2,650 pounds of mortadella sausage because the product contains pistachio nuts, one of the major food allergens (tree nuts), that is not declared on the label. There have been no reports of adverse reactions or illness associated with the consumption of this product.

The first product recalled is cases containing two 6-8 pound bulk deli packages of “BLACK BEAR OF THE FOREST MORTADELLA” with an identifying case code of “510411”. They were shipped to retailers in New Jersey and New York. The second product is cases containing two 5-7 pound bulk deli packages of “COLOSSEUM MORTADELLA” with an identifying case code of “50405”. These products were shipped to distributors in Miami, Florida and Chicago, Illinois. The products were produced on November 10, 2102, and have the establishment number “EST. 4058” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They both have sell by dates of February 10, 2013.

The problem was discovered by the company, which produces mortadella with and without pistachios. The product with pistachios was incorrectly labeled. For questions and more information, call the company’s recall hotline at 804-876-0584.
