Omya Recalls Ground Limestone for Salmonella

Omya Inc. is recalling food grade limestone products made at its Arizona plant for possible Salmonella contamination. You may be wondering why limestone is used in foods! It’s typically added to foods as a calcium supplement and also as a filler. It can reduce acid influx in the stomach. There have not been any reports of illnesses associated with this product.

The product was sold to distributors and manufacturers for further processing, and were not available for retail sale to consumers. The products recalled are Omya-Cal FG-10 AZ in 50 pound bags with lot number Z227510511; in 2500 pound bulk bags with lot number Z227500511; and in 2000 pound bulk bags with lot number Z227500511. Also recalled are Omya-Cal FG-4 AZ in 50 pound bags with lot numbers Z227510409 and Z230310409. Finally, Omya-Cal FG-15 AZ is recalled in 2500 pound bulk bags with lot numbers Z228400712 and Z228200712.
