W&C International Import Inc. Recalling Sardine Anchovies

W&C International Import Inc. is recalling sardine anchovies because the product was uneviscerated (entrails not removed). An inspection by the New York State Department of Agriculture found that a sample was not properly cleaned before processing.

Product details:

  • “Rely” Sardine Anchovies
  • Distributed nationwide
  • 7-ounce plastic packages
  • Product of China

Companies are not allowed to sell uneviscerated fish in New York, under the State Agriculture and Markets regulations because Clostridium Botulinum spores are more likely to be concentrated in the viscera than any other part of the fish. In fact, uneviscerated fish have been linked to botulism poisoning outbreaks.

No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with consumption of this product. Botulism poisoning symptoms include blurred or double vision, poor reflexes, general weakness, and difficulty swallowing or breathing. If you experience any of these symptoms, see your doctor immediately or visit an emergency room.

If you have purchased this product, do not eat it. Return it to the place of purchase. For questions, call 1-718-381-2932.
