Kaytee Recalls Bird Food for Possible Salmonella

Kaytee is recalling bird treats and greens because of possible Salmonella contamination. The parsley flakes in those products, provided by Specialty Commodities, Inc. may be contaminated. You can see the long list of recalled products, with product codes, UPC numbers, sizes, descriptions, and best before codes at the FDA site.

Recall SignageNo human or pet illnesses have been reported to date. Kaytee has not had any positive Salmonella results on its products but are issuing the recall in accordance with FDA guidelines. Salmonella can affect animals and humans who handle contaminated products. Pets with Salmonella may be lethargic and have diarrhea, which may be bloody, fever, and vomiting. Some pets only have decreased appetite, fever, and abdominal pain. Infected pets which seem healthy can be carriers of the bacteria and infect human beings or other pets.

The products were distributed to retailers and distributors inĀ Arizona, Arkansas, California, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Iowa, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Oklahoma, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Puerto Rico, Tennessee, Texas, Vermont, Virginia, Washington, and Wisconsin; and into the countries of Canada, China, Guam, Japan, Korea, Kuwait, Pakistan, Singapore, and the UAE.
