Delizza Belgian Custard Cream Mini Eclairs Recalled for Possible Listeria Monocytogenes

Poppies International is voluntarily recalling Delizza Belgian Custard Cream Mini Eclairs because the product may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall to date.

The Delizza Belgian Custard Cream Mini Eclairs can be identified by the lot number L1M1018, with a Best Before date of 09/09/19. Those numbers are on the side of each tub by the lid.

The recall was issued after routine sampling revealed that the finished product ran on the same line that contained the bacteria. The company did not release any product that tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes. As a precautionary measure, they are recalling all product run on that line during that production week.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Discard it in a sealed package and put it into a covered garbage can. You can also return the product to the place of purchase for a refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer, or wherever you stored this product, with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria. Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it. Wash your hands well with soap and water after cleaning and after handling the product package.

If you ate any of this recalled product, you should monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. That’s how long it can take for symptoms to appear. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, stiff neck, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be careful of this bacteria since it can cause miscarriage and stillbirth, even though the woman is only mildly ill with what seems like the flu. If you do develop these symptoms, see your doctor.
