Malone’s Fine Sausage Recalls Pork Head Cheese For Possible Listeria

Malone’s Fine Sausage of Milwaukee, Wisconsin is recalling 26,323 pounds of ready-to-eat pork head cheese products for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. There have been no confirmed reports of illness related to this recall.

These items were produced on dates ranging from August 27, 2018 through October 5, 2018. The recalled products include various weights of vacuum-sealed packages containing “Glorious Malone’s Fine Sausage, INC. GOURMET PORK DELICACY HOT SEASONED HEADCHEESE” with a “Sell By” dates from 10/26/2018 through 12/5/2018 and lot codes 3524 through 3540, and various weights of vacuum-sealed packages containing “Glorious Malone’s Fine Sausage, INC. GOURMET PORK DELICACY MILD SEASONED HEADCHEESE” with a “Sell By” dates from 10/26/2018 through 12/5/2018 and lot codes 3524 through 3540. These items have the establishment number “EST. 15702” inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped through internet catalog sales, and also through retail stores in Illinois, Michigan and Wisconsin.

An FSIS laboratory test revealed that some of this product tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes on October 9, 2018.

If you bought either of these products, don’t eat them, even if you are going to heat them first. Throw them away in a sealed package, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

You should then clean your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution to kill any possible bacteria. Listeria bacteria can grow at temps below 40°F. Freezing doesn’t kill this pathogen.

If you ate any of this product, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. People with this infection may experiment e severe headache, high fever, stiff neck, and diarrhea. Older adults and pregnant women are usually the most seriously affected. If you feel sick, see your doctor.
