Northgate Market Beef and Chicken Cubes Recalled For Wheat

Fieldsource Food Systems of Brea, California is recalling about 12,953 pounds of diced beef and chicken products because they contain wheat, one of the major food allergens, that is not declared on the label. Anyone who is allergic to wheat or who has celiac disease could have a serious adverse reaction if they eat these products. No adverse reactions have been received to date in connection with this issue.

The uncooked, marinated, diced beef and chicken cubes were produced from June 9, 2019 through July 10, 2019. The recalled items are:

  • 20-pound boxes containing four unmarked 5 pound plastic bags with “FIELDSOURCE Food Systems, Inc. NORTHGATE MARKET MARINATED BEEF CUBES” and lot codes 061019 through 071019 represented on the label.
  • 20-pound boxes containing four unmarked 5 pound plastic bags with “FIELDSOURCE Food Systems, Inc. NORTHGATE MARKET MARINATED CHICKEN CUBES” and lot codes 061019 through 071019 printed on the label.

The Northgate Market beef products have the establishment number “EST. 45141” inside the USDA mark of inspection. The chicken items have the establishment number “P-45141” printed inside the USDA mark of inspection. They were shipped to grocery stores in California and sold behind the deli counter. They were cooked at the deli counters in each store; the product is not sold uncooked to consumers.

The issue was uncovered during routine label verifications by FSIS. FSIS thinks that some of these precuts may be in refrigerators or freezers behind the deli counter in grocery stores. The delis should not sell these products, but should throw them away or return them to the place of purchase for a refund.

FSIS is conducting retail effectiveness checks to make sure that the firm is notifying its customers about this recall and making sure that these recalled products are no longer available to consumers.
