Tainy Vostoka Assorted Dried Fruits Recalled For Undeclared Sulfites

Krasnyi Oktyabr USA of Brooklyn, New York is recalling two types of Tainy Vostoka dried fruits because they contain undeclared sulfites, a food additive. Anyone who has a severe sensitivity to sulfites, and some asthmatics, could have a serious reaction if they eat these products. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date.

Tainy Vostoka Dried Fruits Recall

The first recall is for Tainy Vostoka Assorted Dried Fruits – Apple. This product was sold nationwide in retail stores and through mail order. The product is packaged in 500 gram (17.65 ounce) clear plastic packages marked with container code #15 03 2019 SS.

The recall was initiated after sampling by New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors and subsequent analysis by Food Laboratory personnel. The consumption of 10 mg of sulfites per serving can trigger severe reactions in some people with asthma. Anaphylactic shock can occur in some sulfite sensitive people ingesting that amount. The dried apple had 23.69 mg of sulfites per serving.

The second recall is for Tainy Vostoka Assorted Dried Fruits – Quince, also for undeclared sulfites. That product is packaged in 500 gram (17.65 ounce) clear plastic packages marked with container code #24 02 2019 SS.

No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to date in connection with this recall either. Routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture found that this product contained 26.32 mg of sulfites per serving.

If you cannot eat sulfites, do not eat these products. Throw them away in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
