The FDA is issuing more warnings about products containing yellow oleander. Three more dietary supplements have been added to the list the FDA has been compiling since 2023.
The problem is that some items that are labeled as tejocote root, or Brazil seed, actually contain yellow oleander. That is a poisonous plant that is native to Mexico and Central America. These products are often marketed as weight loss aids.
The items include Niwali Tejocote Pieces manufactured by Global Mix, Inc. They are packaged in a white tear drop shaped bottle with a dark blue lid and light blue banner and printing in dark blue and black. There is a 90 day supply in the bottle. It was sold on eBay. The FDA tested this product. The firm has agreed to recall this product.
Also recalled is Nawali Tejocote Capsules, also manufactured by Global Mix. The capsules are packaged in a white bottle with a white lid and a green banner, with words printed in green. There are 90 capsules in this bottle. It was sold on Everymarket.com. The FDA tested this product. The firm has agreed to a recall.
Finally, Easy Forte Natural Fiber Capsules are included in this recall. The product is in a light yellow box with gold and green shading on the sides and black and green printing. There are 30 capsules in each box. It was sold at the Jaola store on Amazon. The manufacturer has not responded to calls or emails from the FDA. A state partner tested this supplement and found it contains yellow oleander.
If you purchased these products, stop taking them. You can throw them away in a secure garbage can after first double bagging them so other people can’t see them. If you have taken any of these products, contact your doctor immediately, even if you haven’t used them recently, so you can be evaluated. Call 911 or get emergency medical help right away if you or someone in your family has serious side effects from these products.
