The recall of Great Value and Trader Joe’s frozen berries has been expanded for possible E. coli contamination to include more products. Previous recalls were issued on July 3, 2026 and September 3, 2026. The Great Value berries, along with GreenWise blueberries sold at Publix stores, were linked to an E. coli O145 outbreak that sickened at least 17 people in two states: Georgia and Florida. The recalling firm is Frutas y Hortalizas del Sur S.A., of San Carlos, Chile.

The outbreak was linked to GreenWise frozen blueberries, which were used to make the Great Value product, sold at Walmart stores, and the Trader Joe’s product. This is the first time the Trader Joe’s product has been mentioned and recalled.
The recalled Great Value products were shipped to Walmart stores in 30 states: Alabama, Arkansas, Connecticut, Florida, Georgia, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Michigan, Minnesota, Missouri, Mississippi, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Oklahoma, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, South Dakota, Tennessee, Texas, Virginia, Wisconsin, and West Virginia, along with Puerto Rico. This action is taken as a precautionary measure because the blueberries used in them were part of the recalled berries.
If you bought these products, do not eat them, even if you plan to cook them first because of the possibility of cross-contamination. You can throw the berries away in a secure trash can after double bagging them, or you can take them back to the place of purchase for a refund.
If you ate these berries, monitor your health for the symptoms of an E. coli infection for the next week. If you gave them to children to eat, monitor their health for hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS), a type of kidney failure. If anyone gets sick, see a doctor.
