Anyone who is allergic to egg could have a serious reaction if they eat this product. The recalling firm is Whole Foods Market of Austin, Texas.
This cheese contains egg lysozyme, an egg white protein. The cheese was sold in the specialty cheese department at 18 Whole Foods Markets in the states of Arizona, California, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Jersey, New York, and Rhode Island.
This recalled product was cut and plastic wrapped by the pound in the store, with the Whole Foods Market scale labels. The recalled item is Whole Foods Fromagerie Coop de Mean Cabricharme cheese. The PLU number for this product is 57953. Also recalled is Belgian Cabricharme cheese. The PLU number for that item is 54670. It was sold at Whole Foods Markets in the states of California and Arizona. All best by or use by dates up to and including October 7, 2026 are included in this recall.
The recall was triggered when a store team member discovered the mislabeling. No allergic reactions have been reported to the company to date in connection with this issue.
If you bought this cheese and are allergic to or sensitive to egg, do not eat it. You can throw it away in a secure trash can with a tight lid after first double wrapping or bagging the cheese, or you can take it back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
You can get a refund, if you choose to discard the cheese, by presenting a valid receipt from the place of purchase.
