Chicken of the Sea Recalling Oysters

Chicken of the Sea International is recalling six UPC numbers of oyster products packed under different brand names because they were imported from Korea.

The FDA has banned frozen, fresh, and canned oyster products from that country because the harvesting waters were contaminated with human waste and norovirus was found in the area.

Product details:

  • Chicken of the Sea Whole Oysters
    • 12/8 ounce
    • UPC number 4800000267
  • Chicken of the Sea Oyster Pieces
    • 24/8 ounce
    • UPC number 4800000069
  • Pacific Pearl Whole Oysters
    • 12/8 ounce
    • UPC number 7175902112
  • Ace of Diamonds Whole Oysters
    • 24/8 ounce
    • UPC number 7760015508
  • Pacific Pearl Smoked Oyster Water
    • 12/3.75 ounce
    • UPC number 7175902119

The company is asking consumers and facilities to return the product to the company instead of disposing it.  To learn more, see the recall press release from the company. The products could be delivered to stores and consumers may have purchased them.

No illnesses have been reported in association with the consumption of these products.

Comments

  1. Cow poop: OK
    Human poop: Unacceptable.

  2. Thanks for the tip about oysters, I was stationed in Korea in the Army, They had no sewer system at that time and would er agate their crops with human sewage so they could never export. I guess after 45 years things are still the same. How could this have slipped through the cracks.

    • It didn’t slip through the cracks… apparently it was pushed through their cracks. And I would like to add that I found this because I was down to my last can and cannot find them in Walmart any more. Don’t know my UPC from the can yet, but the date stamped on the lid is 05262012. Looks like I have a winning can of poop flavored oysters!
