Possible Foodborne Illness Outbreak at Indiana Mexican Restaurant Chain

The Fort Wayne-Allen County Department of Health is investigating a possible outbreak of foodborne illness at Cebolla’s Mexican restaurant in Time Corners, Indiana. About 20 people have been sickened after eat there on Sunday, March 25, 2012.

The symptoms of the illnesses are consistent with norovirus, a common source of food poisoning. The management of the restaurant is cooperating with the investigation, and closed voluntarily on Thursday for cleaning.

Norovirus is the leading cause of foodborne illness in the United States simply because it is so easily spread. Symptoms of the illness typically begin 24 to 48 hours after exposure. Frequently hand washing and staying home from work when ill can help stop the spread of the virus.
