ZIP International Recalls Herring for Listeria. Again.

For the eighth time in the last 21 months, ZIP International is recalling Herring Fillet in Oil because it may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The herring is a product of Russia.

Important Notice RecallThe recalled products is FOSFOREL Herring Fillet in Oil, sold in 200 gram packages. The packaging is plastic and the best by date of 18/01/2014 (01/18/2014) is located on the round side of the packaging. The UPC number isĀ 4607106577526. The product was sold to retail grocery stores in New York starting on 11/07/2013 and ending on 12/12/2013.

The recall was initiated after routine sampling by the New York State Department of Agriculture found the bacteria. If you purchased this item, do not eat it. If you did eat some, you must now monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Symptoms include high fever, severe headache, nausea, stiffness, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may have only mild, flu-like symptoms, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth and miscarriage.
