In the multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to fresh jalapeño peppers, at first the FDA and CDC stated that the fruit was only sold to restaurants and other food service establishments. Coast Citrus Distributors, the recaller of the jalapeños that were imported from Sinaloa Mexico, only released a recall available to those establishments. Except for adding recalls, that outbreak investigation has not been updated since August 4, 2026.
Then the FDA and USDA started to recall products sold at the retail consumer level. These recalls can be confusing, especially when issued through the different agencies. And our investigation has found that some recalls were not included in those lists, and others where the package size or name of the product was different.
In addition, some people may have frozen these products for later use. Freezing does not destroy Salmonella bacteria, so thee products are not safe to eat.
So these recalls are listed by the grocery store or grocery store chain, not according to who regulates the ingredients used to make those products. This is all of the information published at this time, from the USDA, FDA, and the individual store sites. It will be updated as more information becomes available, and it will be pinned to the top of our site.

Salata Dressings of Houston, Texas recalled its Jalapeno Avocado Dressing, which was sold at H-E-B grocery stores in Texas between July 13, 2026 and August 5, 2026. The company said it issued the recall after its supplier notified it that the diced jalapeños used in the dressing may have been contaminated with Salmonella and may be associated with this outbreak. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this product.
The dressing was sold in 12 ounce plastic bottles with a black cap. The best by dates, which are printed at the top of the label, are 11/05/2026, 11/13/2026, 11/18/2026, and 11/25/2026.
Please note that this dressing is different from every other product in this article. All of the others carry best by and use by dates in July and August 2026, but this one is dated into November 2026. If you bought this dressing at an H-E-B store in July or early August, it can still be in your refrigerator, and it is still recalled. Check the bottle.
Dairyland Produce jalapeños are being recalled. The recalled jalapenos were sold in Costco store locations #1487, located at 12717 Network drive in Stafford, Texas, and in Costco store #0655, located at 8282 Park Lane in Dallas, Texas. The jalapeños are packaged in clear plastic bags with labels like the picture above.
The recalled lot codes are X2741775, X2741859, X2744163, X2744706, X2746349, X2746490, and X2748743. The production dates are: 26192 (07/11/26), 26196 (07/15/26), 26197 (07/16/26), 26199 (07/18/26), and 26203 (07/22/26). The jalapeños were repacked by Hardie’s Fresh Foods.
If you bought any of these items, do not eat them. You can throw them away in a secure garbage can after first double bagging them so others can’t see them, or you can take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
