In the multistate Salmonella outbreak linked to fresh jalapeño peppers, at first the FDA and CDC stated that the fruit was only sold to restaurants and other food service establishments. Coast Citrus Distributors, the recaller of the jalapeños that were imported from Sinaloa Mexico, only released a recall available to those establishments.
Then the FDA and USDA started to recall products sold at the retail consumer level. These recalls can be confusing, especially when issued through the different agencies. And our investigation has found that some recalls were not included in those lists, and others where the package size or name of the product was different.
In addition, some people may have frozen these products for later use. Freezing does not destroy Salmonella bacteria, so thee products are not safe to eat.
So these recalls are listed by the grocery store or grocery store chain, not according to who regulates the ingredients used to make those products. This is all of the information published at this time, from the USDA, FDA, and the individual store sites. It will be updated as more information becomes available, and it will be pinned to the top of our site.
