BrightFarms Salads Recalled for Metal Materials

The (FDA) has announced that multiple BrightFarms salad products have been recalled due to the possible presence of metal construction materials. This contamination arose due to construction at the Elkwood, Virginia (Culpeper County) greenhouse farm where the salad greens were grown.

The BrightFarms branded salads were distributed to and sold at Giant Food stores (Giant Landover, Giant Carlisle, Peapod, and Martin’s Food Markets) in Delaware, Maryland, Pennsylvania, Virginia, Washington, D.C., and West Virginia. The Capital Area Food Bank may also have distributed the compromised salads to consumers.

The affected salad products were packaged in clear plastic clamshell packages stamped with “Best by” dates of 5/22/17, 5/23/17, 5/24/17, 5/25/17, and 5/26/17. The recalled brands are: BrightFarms Baby Spinach (4-ounce package), BrightFarms Spring Mix (4-ounce and 8-ounce packages), BrightFarms Spinach Blend (4-ounce package), BrightFarms Baby Kale (3-ounce package), BrightFarms Arugula (4-ounce and 8-ounce packages), BrightFarms Mixed Greens (4-ounce package), BrightFarms Baby Romaine (4-ounce and 8-ounce packages).

There are also basil products included in the recall. The basil, packaged in clear plastic clamshells, are marked with the “Best by” dates of 5/18/17, 5/19/17, 5/20/17, 5/21/17, 5/22/17, and 5/23/17. The affected labels are: BrightFarms Basil (.75-ounce package), BrightFarms Thai Basil (.75-ounce package), and BrightFarms Lemon Basil (.75-ounce package).

Consumers who have purchased these salad products should not eat them. Instead, they should be thrown away or returned to the store for a full refund.BrightFarms Salad Products Recalled for Metal Materials
