Kale Chicken Caesar Pasta Sold at Fresh Market Recalled

The Fresh Market is recalling Kale Chicken Caesar Pasta that is sold by the pound in their full service deli case, and pre-packaged in the self-service deli case for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This recall was prompted by a supplier recall of one of the ingredients used in this product. The supplier is Freshway Foods. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

All of the products have been removed from stores and destroyed, but consumers probably purchased this product before the recall was issued and may have it in their home refrigerator or freezer.

If you purchased Kale Chicken Caesar Pasta do not eat it, even if you plan to reheat it. Cross-contamination may occur with other foods, or utensils or kitchen surfaces may pick up the bacteria if it is present. Throw the product away in a sealed container or take the receipt back to any Fresh Market location for a full refund.

You should then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a solution of 1 tablespoon liquid chlorine bleach to 1 gallon of warm water to kill any pathogens. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill it.

Remove everything from the fridge or freezer and wipe down with the solution. Rinse and dry. Clean the shelves, drawers, and walls of the fridge or freezer with this solution, rinse, and dry. Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water after handling this product and after cleaning.

If you ate any of this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days; that’s how long it can take for illness to manifest. Symptoms can include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, muscle aches, nausea, vomiting, and diarrhea. Pregnant women need to be especially careful about this pathogen since, although they may not feel terribly sick, listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth. If you do feel ill, call your doctor.
