Nossack European Style Back Bacon Recalled For Listeria

Nossack Fine Meats Ltd. in Canada is recalling Nossack European Style Back Bacon from the marketplace for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This is an update of a food recall warning that was issued on October 12, 2019 to include more product information that was identified during the Canadian Food Inspection Agency’s (CFIA) food safety investigation.

The original food recall warnings were for Butcher’s Pride Corned Beef and Pastrami, and for Corned Beef products. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall. These products were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and possibly nationally.

The recalled product is Nossack European Style Back Bacon, sold in variable size packages. There is no UPC number on the product, and the code on the product is 2019DE16.

This recall was triggered by CFIA test results. The food safety investigation may reveal more products that need to be recalled; if they are identified, more food recall warnings will be issued.

If you purchased this product, don’t eat it, even if you plan to cook it first. Throw it away in a sealed container or take it back to the store where you bought it for a full refund.

Then clean out your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. Wash your hands well with soap and water after touching this product and after cleaning.

If you ate this product, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis which can take 70 days to appear. Most common symptoms include stiff neck, high fever, severe headache, and muscle aches. Pregnant women may only feel mildly ill, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth. If you do feel sick, call your doctor.
