Wegmans Veggie Power Blend & Shiitake Slaw Recalled For Listeria

Two types of Wegmans vegetable products are being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This recall, for Wegmans Veggie Power Blend and Tofu Shiitake Slaw,  was prompted by the recall of Mann Packing vegetables after they were told by the FDA and the Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) that they may be contaminated with the pathogen. This is one of several secondary recalls announced because the recalled foods were made with Mann Packing ingredients.

The recalled products include Wegmans Veggie Power Blend, that was sold on the Self-Serve Cold Bar between September 29, 2019 and November 4, 2019. Also recalled is Wegmans Tofu Shiitake Slaw, sold on the Self-Serve Cold Bar between September 29, 2019 and November 4, 2019.

If you bought either of these products, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container in a garbage can with a secure lid, or take them back to the Service Desk at Wegmans for a full refund.

You should clean your refrigerator or freezer with a mild bleach solution to kill any bacteria after you discard these products. Listeria monocytogenes can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing doesn’t kill the pathogen. Wash your hands with soap and water after cleaning and after touching these products.

If you ate either of these recalled items, watch your health for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days; that’s how long it can take for them to appear. Symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, muscle aches, nausea, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only feel mildly ill with what seems like the flu, but this illness can cause miscarriage or stillbirth. If you do feel sick, call your doctor.
