An Evergreen Fresh broccoli sprouts Salmonella outbreak in Washington state has sickened at least 16 people, according to the Washington State Department of Health (WSDH). Thirteen patients live in Washington, two live in Montana, and one lives in Idaho. The firm, Evergreen Fresh Sprouts, is located in Idaho. No recall has been issued.
The patient case count by state is: Idaho (1), Montana (2), and Washington (13). Illness onset dates range from July 7, 2026 to August 18, 2026. Two people have been hospitalized because they are so sick. No recall has been issued. This outbreak is unrelated to the Everything Sprouts Salmonella outbreak that has sickened ant least 55 people in 15 states.
Twelve patients have been interviewed by public health officials. Of those 12, eight reported eating sprouts from Evergreen Fresh Sprouts. Seven ate broccoli sprouts. The variety eaten by the eighth person is unknown. The sprouts were purchased from grocery stores, food coops and restaurants.
The serotype in this outbreak is Salmonella Bovismorbificans. Sprout samples from the company and from other suppliers are currently undergoing testing at the Washington State Public Health Laboratory. It will take a few days for the results to be released.
The symptoms of a Salmonella infection usually take 6 to 72 hours to manifest after eating foods contaminated with the bacteria, but some people may not get sick until a week later. Patients usually experience fever, headache, nausea, stomach pain and cramps, vomiting, abdominal pain and cramps, and diarrhea that may be bloody.
