Balter Meats Company Ground Beef Recalled For Lack of Re-Inspection

JBS Food Canada LLC of Brooks, Alberta, Canada, is recalling about 38,406 pounds of boneless beef head meat products that were made into Balter Meat Company Ground Beef, that was not presented for import-reinspection into the United States. There have been no confirmed reports of adverse reactions due to the consumption of these products.

These raw, frozen items were imported on July 13, 2020 and were further processed by another company into ground beef. The recalled product is 80-pound boxes containing eight, 10-pound chubs of Balter Meat Company Ground Beef 73/27. The product has the “Use by or Freeze By” date of 8/9/2020 or 8/10/2020. The pack dates marked on the product are 072020, 072120, or 072220. The lot codes marked on the label are 2020A or 2030A.

The ground beef has the establishment number “EST. 11126″inside the USDA mark of inspection. The meat was shipped to distribution centers in Florida, Georgia, North Carolina, and South Carolina, for further distribution to retail locations.

The problem was discovered when FSIS found through routine surveillance that the product had by-passed FSIS import re-inspection. The government thinks that some of this ground beef may be in consumers’ freezers. Please check your freezer carefully to see if you purchased this product. If you did, throw it away or take it back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

If a retail distribution list becomes available, it will be posted on the USDA web site. Meanwhile, FSIS is conducting retail effectiveness checks to make sure the firm is telling their customers about this recall. They are also ensuring that the product is no longer available for sale on store shelves.
