Enlightened Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream Recalled For Milk

Beyond Better Foods is recalling some pints from a single production run of Enlightened Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream that is packaged in pint containers because they have been packaged in containers labeled for Dairy-Free Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream. That means the product contains milk, one of the major food allergens, that is not declared on the label as required by law. Anyone who is allergic to milk or who is lactose intolerant could have  a serious reaction if they eat this product. No illnesses or allergic reactions have been reported to the company to date in connection with this recall.

The recall is the result of mislabeled product. The recalled product was distributed  nationwide in retail stores. It is Enlightened Chocolate Peanut Butter Ice Cream sold in pint containers. These packages have a base container labeled “Dairy-Free Chocolate Peanut Butter” and lid labeled “Chocolate Peanut Butter” without a “Dairy-Free’ callout. All of these recalled ice cream products have a “best by” date of November 5, 2021 printed on the bottom of the container.

If you purchased this product and cannot consume milk for whatever reason, don’t eat it. Throw it away or take it back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.

Company investigation of this mislabeling is ongoing, although they believe it is an isolated incident. Symptoms of a food allergy can range from mild to severe, from tingling of the mouth, lips, and tongue to swelling of the throat, itching and hives, nausea, diarrhea, and difficulty breathing.
