International Sprout Holding is recalling alfalfa sprout seeds in response to the multistate E. coli and Salmonella outbreak linked to Everything Sprouts alfalfa sprouts, radish sprouts, Crunchy Protein Sprout Mix, and Zesty Garlic Mix products. Those products have all been recalled. The recalling firm is International Sprout Holding of Cookeville, Tennessee.
In that outbreak, there are at least 55 people sick in 15 states. The case count by state is: Florida (2), Iowa (1), Indiana (1), Kansas (1), Michigan (1), Minnesota (21), North Carolina (2), North Dakota (2), New Hampshire (1), New York (2), Pennsylvania (1), South Carolina (1), South Dakota (1), Washington (1), and Wisconsin (17). Illness onset dates range from May 31, 2026 to August 8, 2026. The patient age range is from 12 to 94 years.
There are three serotypes of E. coli and one serotype of Salmonella sickening people in this outbreak: E. coli O26:H11, E. coli O103:H25, E. coli O168:H8, and Salmonella Agona. Some people are sick with more than just one strain of these pathogens. Forty-six people are sick with E. coli infections, seven are sick with Salmonella food poisoning, and two are sick with both Salmonella and E. coli infections.
There are 43,799 pounds of seeds included in this recall. They were distributed to wholesalers in these states: California, Florida, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Minnesota, Missouri, Montana, New York, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Tennessee, South Carolina, Texas and Utah. They were also sold in Puerto Rico, as well as in Canada, Mexico, Tahiti, and Venezuela.
The recalled product is alfalfa sprout seeds that are packaged in 50 pound bags. The code information on the product is ISS Lot number SAL2-24JB. No picture of the recalled product was provided in the recall notice.
If you purchased these seeds, do not sprout them and do not sell or serve them to others. You can discard them in a secure trash can, or you can arrange for a return and refund with your distributor.
