The recalled item is Marketside Tomato Bisque Soup Kit that is packaged in a 14 ounce wrapped tray. It has a product description label and printed use by code of 8/22/26. There are 3,240 packs of this product included in the recall.
Routine testing by the company produced a presumptive positive result for Listeria monocytogenes. That triggered the recall.
If you bought this product, do not eat it, even if you plan to thoroughly reheat it because of the possibility of cross-contamination. You can throw the soup kit away in a secure trash can after double bagging it so other people can’t see it, or you can take it back to the store where you purchased it for a full refund.
If you did eat this soup, monitor your health for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. If you do get sick, see your doctor.
Why this recall matters if you are pregnant
Listeria monocytogenes is unusually dangerous in pregnancy. The FDA’s recall notice states that infection can cause miscarriage and stillbirth. A pregnant person can have only mild flu-like symptoms, or none at all, while the infection still reaches the fetus, which is why the advice is not to wait and see.
If you are pregnant and ate this product, contact your doctor or midwife promptly if you develop a fever or any other symptoms, and tell them what you ate and when. Do not wait for symptoms to become severe. More on the risks and what testing looks like is at Listeria and Pregnancy.
