Go-Hang Soybean Sprouts Recalled for Listeria Contamination

Korean Food of Texas is recalling 8 boxes, each containing 20 bags, of Go-Hang Soybean sprouts because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date, but listeriosis, the illness caused by this bacteria, can take up to 70 days to appear.

The recalled items are Go-Hang Soybean sprouts in 1 pound bags with bar codeĀ 4205312100 and 2 pound bags with bar codeĀ 42053-13650. They were distributed in KO-MART in Dallas and H-MART in Plano and Carrollton, Texas. Routine sampling by the FDA discovered the bacteria. The product was distributed January 30 through February 6, 2015.

If you purchased these items, do not eat them. Discard in a sealed container or return to the place of purchase for a refund. Then wash your hands and clean your refrigerator with a mild bleach solution, since Listeria bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures.

If you ate any of these sprouts, watch yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. They include fever, headache, neck stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause stillbirth, miscarriage, and serious infection in the newborn baby.
