Figi’s Recalls Sunflower Products for Possible Listeria

Figi’s Companies of Wisconsin is recalling products related to the SunOpta sunflower kernel recall, because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of these products.

The recalled products are 16 ounce Snack Shoppe Hot & Spicy Cajun Snack Mix in a foil bag in a tin box. The foil bags are marked with lot number HD116063 160ZHSMIX. Also recalled is Figi’s Nature’s Mix in a 16 ounce plastic bag that is in a red circular tin container. Finally, Nature’s Mix in a plastic bulk bag with about 8 to 12 ounces of product is recalled. There is no lot information on the bag. You can see pictures of product packages at the FDA web site.

The Hot & Spicy Cajun Snack Mix was distributed nationwide through mail order. The Nature’s Mix 16 ounce tins were distributed nationwide through a distributor who sold directly to consumers. The Nature’s Mix in clear plastic bags was sold only through Figi’s Outlet Store in Marshfield, Wisconsin.

If you purchased any of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed container in a secure garbage receptacle, or return them to the place of purchase for a refund. Then clean out your drawers or pantry or wherever you stored these items with a mild bleach solution.Wash your hands well with soap and water after handling the products.

If you ate these recalled products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of Listeria monocytogenes food poisoning for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include high fever, stiff neck, severe headache, nausea, abdominal pain, muscle aches, and diarrhea. If you do get sick, especially if you are pregnant or have a chronic illness, see your doctor.
