Amrita Bars Recalled for Possible Listeria Contamination

Amrita Protein Bars are being recalled for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The sunflower seeds and sunflower seed butter sold to the company by Hudson Valley Foods have been recalled for that reason. These bars were sold across the country through retail stores, ecommerce, and direct sales. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this problem.

The recall products were produced from April 24, 2017 to May 31, 2017. The best by dates are 04/24/2018 to 05/31/2018. The products are Amrita Chocolate Maca Bar, 60g (UPC 853009004056), Amrita Dark Chocolate Quinoa, 60g (UPC 853009004438), Amrita Sunflower Seed Butter, 60g (UPC 853009004414), Amrita Chocolate Chip Coconut, 50g (UPC 853009004391), Amrita Mango Coconut, 50g (UPC 853009004018), Amrita Apricot Strawberry, 50g (UPC 853009004056), Amrita Pineapple Chia, 50g (UPC 853009004025), Amrita Apple Cinnamon, 50g (UPC 853009004049), and Amrita Cranberry Raisin, 50g (UPC 853009004032).

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Throw them away or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund. Then clean out your pantry or wherever you stored the bars with a mild bleach solution to kill bacteria.

If you ate these bars, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms include severe headache, high fever, neck stiffness, muscle aches, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness that is similar to the flu, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature labor.
