Bhugga, Candy Made with Sesame Seeds, is Recalled in Canada for Possible Salmonella

The recall of sesame seeds in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination has been updated to include a secondary product. Bhugga, which is a type of dessert, is being recalled in Ontario. This product is made with sesame seeds. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

The previous recalls were for some IHF brand sesame seeds, HelloFresh brand sesame seeds, and sesame seeds sold at ARZ Fine Foods and Bulk Food Stop.

The product was sold at three Rajthani Sweets & Restaurants facilities in Ontario. The first is at 2260 Bovaird Dr. E #106, in Brampton, Ontario; the second is at 811 Bovaird Dr. W #106, in Brampton, Ontario, and the third is at 2658 Islington Ave., in Etobicoke, Ontario.

The recalled product does not have a brand name. The common name is Bhugga. The size is variable; each Bhugga is about 50 grams in weight. All units sold from January 4, 2018 to January 24, 2018 are recalled. There is no UPC number on the product.

If you purchased this product, do not eat it. Throw it away in a sealed container, or return it to the facility where you bought it for a full refund. The recall was triggered by the company.

The symptoms of a Salmonella infection can include fever, vomiting, headache, nausea, abdominal cramps, and diarrhea. Most people get sick within a few hours of eating food that is contaminated with the pathogenic bacteria.  If you have eaten this product, or sesame seeds, and have experienced these symptoms, see your doctor. A Salmonella infection can have long term health consequences, including reactive arthritis, high blood pressure, and irritable bowl syndrome.
