Ground Beef Products Used in National School Lunch Program Recalled for Possible Foreign Material Contamination

Goodman Food Products of Texas is recalling about 34,400 pounds of fully cooked ground beef products that may be contamianted with foreign material, more specifically hard, white plastic. This poses a choking hazard. No illnesses or injuries have been reported to date in contention with this issue.

These frozen, fully cooked ground beef patty and crumble items were produced by Goodman Food Products on August 2, 2017. These are the recalled products: 40-pound cases of “Don Lee Farms FULLY COOKED BEEF PATTY CRUMBLES” with lot code 5886A7214, case code CNG36100 and “Best if used within” date of August 2, 2018; and 40-pound cases of “Don Lee Farms FULLY COOKED HOMESTYLE BEEF PATTY” with lot code 5886A7214, case code CNG38220 and “Best if used within” date of August 2, 2018. These items have the establishment number “EST. 5886A” inside the USDA mark of inspection.

The products were purchased by USDA Foods for the National School Lunch Program and were shipped to institutions in Maine and Connecticut. Consumer complaints about hard, white plastic material in the products prompted this recall.

FSIS thinks that some of these products may be in school refrigerators or freezers. Any school official who may have purchased these products are urged to check the kitchens to make sure none of these items are on site. And these items should not be served to children or staff. Throw them away in sealed containers, or take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

FSIS is conducting recall effectiveness checks to make sure that these items are no longer available. They also make sure that the product is not available to consumers.
