Oatmeal Cookies and Instant Coffee Products Recalled for Undeclared Allergens

In separate alerts, the U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has announced that two products have recently been recalled because they contain allergens not listed on the package labeling. These recalls are for “Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookies” (which contain milk and tree nuts), and for Hong Lee Trading Inc.’s “Chao Café Vietnamese Instant Coffee Mixed 3 in 1” (which contains milk).

Dollar General Corporation issued its nationwide recall of its “Clover Valley® Iced Oatmeal Cookies” after a store employee alerted the company that the 12-ounce packages were actually filled with “Clover Valley® Coconut Macaroons,” an error that occurred at the product’s manufacturing facility. These mispackaged coconut macaroons contain milk and tree nut ingredients.

The recalled cookies were sold at Dollar General retail stores in the states of  AL, AR, AZ, CA, CO, CT, DE, FL, GA, IA, IL, IN, KS, KY, LA, MA, MD, ME, MI, MN, MO, MS, NC, ND, NE, NH, NJ, NM, NY, NV, OH, OK, OR, PA, RI, SC, SD, TN, TX, UT, VA, VT, WI and WV. The packages are stamped with the following numbers – UPC code: #0 86106 03201 5; SKU: 14878301; Lot: L46217 30; and “Best By” date: 08/18/18.

Iced Oatmeal Cookies recall

In a separate recall, Hong Lee Trading Inc. has pulled its “Chao Café Vietnamese Instant Coffee Mixed 3 in 1” product from store shelves in the New York “Tri-State” metropolitan area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Pennsylvania). This recall was prompted after the New York State Department of Agriculture and Markets Food Inspectors discovered, during a routine sampling, that the coffee product contained milk ingredients which were not declared on the package labels. The coffee was distributed in 384-gram plastic packages marked with the container code “JUNE 06 2018.”

People with allergies run the risk of serious or life-threatening illness if they consume these products. They should be properly disposed of or returned to their place of purchase for a full refund.
