Recall of Sesame Seeds in Canada for Possible Salmonella Updated

The recall of sesame seeds in Canada for possible Salmonella contamination has been updated to include more products. Now, HelloFRESH brand and IHF brand seeds are also recalled. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this issue.

Iqbal Halal Foods is recalling IHF brand sesame seeds. The recalled products include Sesame seeds, white, in 200 gram packages. The code on the product is 2-1217, and the UPC number is 4 72253 10069 0. Also recalled is Sesame seeds, white, in 400 gram packages. The code on that product is 4-1217, and the UPC number is 4 72253 10069 1. They were sold at Iqbal Hala Foods in Toronto, Ontario.

The HelloFRESH brand sesame seeds were included in the HelloFERSH brand Toasted Brown Rice Bowl meal kit that was delivered to customers on January 9 and January 10, 2018. It was sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan through internet sales. The product is HelloFresh Sesame seeds in 9 gram packages. There were no codes on the product, and there is no UPC number.

The CFIA is conducting a food safety investigation in both of these recalls. This may lead to the recall of other products.

If you bought either of these products, do not eat them. Throw them away in a sealed or double bagged container in a secure garbage can, or take them back to the place of purchase or contact the seller for a full refund.

Clean out your fridge or freezer or wherever you stored this product with a mild bleach solution to kill any remaining bacteria. And wash your hands well with soap and water after handling this product and after cleaning.
