Lunch Box Chicken Sandwiches Recalled For Possible Listeria

Grand Strand Sandwich is recalling Lunch Box and Fresh and Local chicken sandwiches for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. This recall is part of the massive Tip Top cooked chicken recall that was issued last month. The firm was notified on October 3, 2019 that Star Foods, aka Mrs. Stratton’s, that the chicken salad they make for Grand Strand used chicken involved in the Tip Top recall. No illnesses have been reported to date in connection with this recall.

The recalled products include Lunch Box Chicken Salad Fresh Wedge in 4.5 ounce packages. The UPC number is 0 67068 12105 4 and the sell by dates are 10/29/19, 10/25/19, 10/18/19, 10/15/19, 10/11/19, and 10/08/19. Also recalled are Fresh and Local Chicken Salad Croissants in 5 ounce packages, with UPC number 0 67068 13105 3. The sell by dates on that product are 9/19/19, 9/24/19, 9/26/19, 10/1/19, 10/3/19, and 10/10/19. Finally, Lunch Box Chicken Salad Frozen Wedge is recalled. That product is sold in 4.5 ounce packages with UPC number 0 67068 12105 4 and Julian Date 26119.

These products were sold from September 4, 2019 until October 2, 2019. The sandwiches are packaged in clear plastic and primarily sold in convenience stores and vending machines in North Carolina and South Carolina.

If you purchased these sandwiches, don’t eat them. Throw them away in a secure garbage can with a tight fitting lid so other people and animals can’t get at them. You can also take them back to the place of purchase for a full refund.

If you stored these sandwiches in your fridge or freezer, you should then clean those appliances with a mild bleach solution. Listeria monocytogenes bacteria can grow at refrigerator temperatures, and freezing temps don’t kill it.

If you ate any of these Lunch Box chicken sandwiches or Fresh and Local Chicken Salad Croissants, watch out for the symptoms of listeriosis for the next 70 days. Those symptoms can include a severe headache, high fever, neck stiffness, muscle aches, nausea, abdominal pain and diarrhea. Pregnant women may only have a mild illness that mimics the flu, but the illness can cause miscarriage and stillbirth. If you do feel sick, call your doctor.
