Miyoko’s Creamery is recalling their butter made from plants over potential E. coli contamination. This product was sold at Raley’s, Sprouts Farmers Market, and was also sold at Wegmans. On Miyoko’s web site, the recall is not mentioned and the Store Finder page is blank. None of the recall notices mentions whether or not any illnesses have been reported to date in connection with the consumption of this product. The recalling firm is Prosperity Organic Foods of Boise, Idaho.
The recalled product was apparently sold nationwide. It is Miyoko’s European Style Cultured Vegan Salted Butter that is packaged in 8 ounce containers. The containers are striped in yellow and cream with a black banner across the top with the name of the creamery printed in white. The UPC number that is printed on the label is 857554005773 and the use by date is November 5, 2026. The lot code is 1007871.
At Raley’s, the SKU number is 80089251. At Sprouts Farmers Market, the stores that sold this product are located in the states Alabama, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Maryland, North Carolina, New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, and Virginia. Sprouts also provided a photo of the product label.
If you bought this butter with that UPC number, lot code, and best by date, do not eat it, even if you are going to cook with it because of the possibility of cross-contamination. You can throw it away in a secure trash can after first double bagging it so others can’t see it, or you can take it back to the place of purchase for a full refund.
If you did eat this butter, especially if eaten uncooked, or fed it to anyone in your family, monitor your health for the symptoms of an E. coli infection or hemolytic uremic syndrome (HUS). If anyone does get sick, see a doctor.
