In Canada, Breads Recalled for Possible Listeria

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency and Federated Co-Operatives Ltd. are recalling Co-op and Market Town Co-op breads because they may be contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes bacteria. No reported illnesses are associated with the consumption of these products.

The recalled products all have best before dates up to and include 14 MR 23. They include Co-op brand California Garlic Bread, with UPC number 0 057316 130112, Co-op Garlic/Cheese Bread in 250 gram packages with UPC number 0 057316 073969, Co-op Garlic Cheese Bread 2 Pk in 450 gram packages with UPC number 0 057316 146847, and Market Town Co-op Pizza Bread, in 425 gram packages with UPC number 0 057316 040305. The breads were sold in Alberta, British Columbia, Manitoba, and Saskatchewan at the retail level. You can see pictures of the product labels at the CFIA web site.

If you purchased these products, do not eat them. Discard or return to the place of purchase, and thoroughly clean and disinfect any surfaces the products may have touched. If you ate any of these products, monitor yourself for the symptoms of listeriosis, which can occur up to 70 days after exposure. Those symptoms include nausea, vomiting, persistent fever, severe headache, neck stiffness, and muscle aches. Pregnant women may only have a mild flu-like illness, but listeriosis can cause miscarriage and stillbirth.
