Capital City Fruit Recalls Cherry Tomatoes for Possible Salmonella

Capital City Fruit of Iowa is recalling cherry tomatoes shipped by Rio Queen Citrus. The facility received notice from Rio Queen following a discovery of a “potentially pathogenic organism Salmonella by the Food and Drug Administration in random testing of an incoming load of cherry tomatoes.”

RecallThe cherry tomatoes were packaged in certain lots of Capital Brand Clamshell Cherry tomatoes, shipped to retail stores from November 14, 2012 through November 18, 2012. The product is in one pint containers. The case lots and clamshell date code pairs are: P96290001 and 4604, P96330002 and 4605, P96477001 and 4606, P96368001 and 4605, P96500001 and 4701, P96313001 and 4604, P96330007 and 4605, P96290006 and 4604, and P96500006 and 4701. The product was sold in retail stores in Iowa, Missouri, Illinois, Kansas, Nebraska, South Dakota, Minnesota, and Wisconsin.

There have not been any reported illnesses linked to the consumption of this product. Retailers have been asked to remove the item from store shelves. For questions, call Capital City Fruit at 800-535-6826 Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm CT except holidays.
