Cedar Grove Sausages Recalled for Possible Listeria

Enslin & Son Packing Company of Mississippi is recalling 314 pounds of sausages for possible Listeria monocytogenes contamination. The product is “Cedar Grove Red Hots” in 1.5 and 2-pound packages. The product was distributed to retailers in Meridian and Philadelphia, Mississippi.

Each package has the number “P-31806” inside the USDA mark of inspection and has a use-by or freeze-by date of 9/24/2012 or 9/28/2012. The sausages were produced on July 16, 2012. There have been no reports of illnesses linked to the consumption of this product.

The products tested positive for Listeria monocytogenes and were shipped before the company received the test results. If you have questions, call the company’s president, Augustus Enslin, at 601-582-9300.

The symptoms of listeriosis, the illness caused by the Listeria bacteria, include fever and muscle aches along with diarrhea and nausea. Pregnant women usually only have a mild, flu-like illness, but the infection can cause stillbirth or miscarriage. People other than pregnant women can have headache, stiff neck, confusion, loss of balance, and convulsions.
