Fenugreek Leaves Recalled in Canada

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) and Fruiticana Produce Inc. are recalling some bunches of Fenugreek leaves because they may be contaminated with a toxic week called Senecio vulgaris.

The leaves were sold exclusively in Fruiticana stores in British Columbia and Alberta from February 5, 2012 through February 11, 2012. The leaves have no label or lot code.

There have been no reported illnesses in connection with the consumption of this product. This weed can cause liver damage, since it contains pyrrolizidine alkaloid, a toxic chemical. The importer, Fruiticana Produce Inc. of Surrey, British Columbia, is voluntarily recalling the fenugreek.
