Tita Corp. Columbian Style Cheese Recalled for Possible Staphylococcus

Productos Tita Corp. of New York is recalling Columbian style cheese for possible Staphylococcus aureus contamination. The cheese, produced under the brand name “Tita”, is called “Quesito Colombiano.” It is packaged in 8 ounce clear plastic pouches or tubs with a plant code of #36-8440 and stamped code of “AUG 10 2012” stamped beneath the label bar code.

The cheese was distributed in the metropolitan New York area. The manufacturer was told of the test results on July 28, 2012 and issued the recall.

Staphylococcus aureus causes rapid onset food poisoning symptoms, including nausea, vomiting, retching, abdominal cramping, and prostration. All people are susceptible to this bacteria, although the elderly, the very young, and those with chronic illnesses are more likely to have severe complications. No illnesses have been reported in association with the consumption of this product.

If you have purchased this cheese, return it to the place of purchase. For questions, call the company at 718-381-4393.
