Update on Canadian Cheese Listeria Recall

The FDA today issued a warning about cheeses that were potentially contaminated with Listeria monocytogenes. The products were manufactured by 3903052 Canada Inc., located in Boisbriand, Quebec. The FDA and the Massachusetts Department of Health (MDPH) have recalled and destroyed the cheeses.

Canadian cheese Listeria recallThe original recall in Canada included just two brands of cheese, but was expanded to include 55 cheese and dairy products produced between November 11, 2011, and December 17, 2011. The United States recall was instituted for cheese that were distributed to Bahnan’s stores in Worcester, Massachusetts. The cheese was only available in that state in America.

The original recall was extended several times to include more products. An administration error kept some of the products on store shelves. The company has several brand names, including Clic, Deschamps, Fromagerie Marie Kade and TIFCO.

There has been one reported illness, in Canada, in connection with the consumption of this product.

The Canadian Food Inspection Agency (CFIA) said that the manufacturer has stopped production and the source of the contamination has not been determined. For more information, call the CFIA hotline that was set up specifically for this recall, at 1-800-442-2342.
